My research focus is understanding the processes that affect freeze-thaw nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions and how different management practices affect emissions. Using micrometerological techniques, including automatic chambers and flux gradient systems, we will assess how conventional and diverse crop rotations affect N2O production. With the effects of climate change already upon us, we are interested in understanding how a warmer world will affect N2O fluxes. Using ceramic heaters that raise the surface temperature 3-4 degrees Celsius, we are able to understand how N2O emissions will be affected by climate change.
